BRIDGE

A ledger-agnostic interoperable system for issuing and verifying W3C verifiable credentials, with a proof-of-concept for the European Health Insurance card

Product Information

Description
BRIDGE provides a flexible framework for creating and validating W3C-compliant verifiable credentials across different distributed ledger technologies. Its ledger-agnostic architecture enables organizations to issue digital credentials that remain interoperable regardless of the underlying blockchain or decentralized identity system used. The system incorporates three core technological building blocks that enhance scalability and interoperability by supporting multiple credential exchange protocols (DIDcomm and CHAPI), credential formats (JSON-LD and Anoncreds), and decentralized identifier (DID) methods. A proof-of-concept implementation demonstrates BRIDGE's practical application through the European Health Insurance card, showcasing how healthcare credentials can be securely issued and verified across borders while maintaining patient privacy and data sovereignty. This approach gives organizations freedom to choose their preferred technical specifications while ensuring credentials remain universally verifiable across different ecosystems.
