OpenEye CamSI

Open hardware FPGA-based USB webcam software

Product Information

Description
OpenEye CamSI implements a fully open-source USB webcam solution built around field-programmable gate array (FPGA) hardware, providing transparent control over the imaging pipeline from sensor to host. The system captures video through a camera sensor, processes the raw image data on the FPGA using custom logic, and streams it as standard USB Video Class (UVC) compliant video over USB 2.0 to any compatible operating system without proprietary drivers. Key features include hardware-accelerated image signal processing (ISP) for tasks like demosaicing, white balance, and gamma correction, alongside the flexibility to modify or extend the FPGA firmware for specialized applications such as real-time computer vision, embedded vision systems, or educational hardware projects. This approach offers developers and researchers a customizable alternative to closed-source webcams, enabling complete visibility into the imaging stack while maintaining plug-and-play compatibility with common video conferencing, streaming, and recording software.
